The Mount Union Alliance Chorale is an active participant in
the cultural life of Alliance.
The Chorale is a mixed chorus and membership is open (without
audition) to all who love to sing. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday
evenings (beginning the week after Labor Day) at 7 p.m. in the rehearsal
hall at Cope Music Building on the Mount Union College campus. The
Mount Union Alliance Chorale sings music of a mixed variety from Mozart
to Rodgers and Hammerstein. They perform two major concerts each
year, the first in late Fall and the second one in the Spring. The Chorale
sings often with the Alliance Symphony Orchestra.
About the director: Mr. John M. Roberts is the Music Director
and Conductor of the Mount Union Alliance Chorale. Mr. Roberts
received degrees in music from Ohio Wesleyan University, and
The Ohio State University with further study at Oberlin College and
Eastern Michigan University. He studied choral conducting with
Peter Wilhousky and Paul Christiansen and received a Rockefeller
grant to study with Robert Fountain.
Mr. Robert's choirs have performed in Augsburg, Munich and
Berchesgaden, Germany as well as at conventions of the Ohio Music
Education Association and the Music Educators National Conference.
He has been artistic director/conductor for the Orpheus Choral Society
and the Western Reserve Chorale of Cleveland as well as the Dorian
Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Roberts is in demand as a choral adjudicator,
choral workshop clinician as well as English handbell director.
