The Alliance Symphony
Orchestra is
a community-based
musical ensemble that brings
together local musicians in
order to provide symphonytype
music for local residents
to enjoy.
The 75-member orchestra
consists of strings, woodwinds,
brass and percussion sections
and members range in age
from high school to 85. The
orchestra includes musicians
ranging from amateur to professional,
college professors and
students.
Founded in 1988, the orchestra
plays a variety of music
which includes the classics, Broadway show tunes, jazz,
pops and movie music. The ASO practices once a week at
Cope Music Hall at Mount Union College and is directed by
Becky Stinson and Elaine Anderson. The orchestra's manager
is Cynthia Kreiner.
"The Alliance Symphony Orchestra is a community-based
symphony orchestra dedicated to providing a musical outlet
for the Alliance and area surrounding
community musicians
bringing large city atmosphere
music to our town," said Chris
Brown, the orchestra's public relations
officer. "We try to provide
for our community a place for
people to go and enjoy symphony-
type music without having to
drive for a minimal cost."
Each year, the ASO gives
three main performances in
addition to playing at several
smaller venues. During the
Carnation Festival's "Days in
the Park," in August, the orchestra
performs "Pops in the
Park." One of the highlights of
this concert is the symphony's
Big Band performing jazz and swing under the direction of
Bryan Stehura.
In the spring, the ASO will perform its annual spring concert.
