The Sebring
Local School
District serves
approximately 700 students
who are housed in
two buildings, B.L. Miller
Elementary for grades
K-6 and Sebring McKinley
Junior/Senior High
School for grades 7-12.
The district has about 95
full-time staff members.
The district recently
purchased new math
books for grades 5
through 12. A second
computer lab was added
at the high school and
a majority of computers in the district were updated recently. Also
added were Smart Boards in four classrooms, with the district
looking to purchase more in the coming years. The boards are
used as a technology tool with which teachers can give lessons,
pull information off of the internet and save information.
"I think with today's technology and the use of the World Wide
Web, it's important the students get a lot of hands-on with the
computers and to access information," Sebring superintendent
Howard Friend said.
The district offers intervention programs such as one-on-one
instruction in reading and math in addition to summer school
programs at both elementary and high school levels. The district
received a Learn and Serve grant from the state of Ohio which allows
a Learn and Serve class to be offered at the high school. The
program gives students an opportunity to complete class work and
volunteer in the community.
Sebring offers an all-day kindergarten program and students
who wish to take vocational classes attend the Mahoning County
Career and Technical Center. The district's athletic teams participate
in the Inter-County league, a merger of the Inter-County and
Tri-County leagues. The district received an effective rating on the
state report card for the 2006-2007 school year.

"Our goals are to
continue to look at innovative
ways to meet
the students' needs and
to make improvements as
far as the district report
card," Friend said. "We're
looking for ways to meet
more of the state indicators.
We're also doing a
lot of staff development
to go over the curriculum
and make sure that we're
in line with the state standards."
