ALLIANCE FIRE DEPARTMENT
Since 1893, the Alliance Fire Department has provided fire
protection to Alliance residents. The department was formed
when two volunteer companies, the Babcock Hook and Ladder
Co. and the Keystone Fire Co., were combined. Volunteers
staffed the department until 1897 when it became a paid fire
department.
Today, the department performs fire suppression, auto
extrication, rescue service, hazardous material response and
provides an EMS/First Responders Squad. The addition of
the squad has brought an increase in department response.
In 2006, the department responded to 1,382 calls and in 2007
more than 2,250 calls were responded to.
In addition to emergency scene operations, the Alliance Fire
Department has a complete fire inspection program. The Fire
Prevention Bureau does fire and arson investigations, building
plan reviews, fire code enforcement and a juvenile fire starters
deterrent program. The department has an ISO Class 4 rating.
The department is full-time with 30 career state-certified
firefighters and one civilian support personnel. Three shifts of
seven to nine firefighters cover the city at all times with the ability
to page more off-duty firefighters as emergencies require.
The department's vehicle fleet consists of two class A pumpers,
one 105-foot tower-ladder truck and several utility vehicles.
The department operates out of and maintains two fire
stations. The Central Station is located at 63 E. Broadway and
the Mount Union station is located on Union Avenue.
Chief of the department is Scott Cochran.
Tours are available for groups at the Central station. To
