Rodman Public Library offers programs and
services for both children and adults.
Located at 215 E. Broadway St., the library
has recently undergone several renovations to
expand its services to the community.
Rodman completed a $2.4 million renovation
in January of 2007. Additions include a public
access elevator, a new children's program room,
a computer training lab and a teen area. The
infrastructure received an upgrade in the heating
and cooling systems, new lighting, a new phone
system and signage. New and refurbished furnishings,
shelving, floor covering and paint have
given the library a fresh and inviting appearance.
The relocated Alliance room continues to
be a welcome sight to genealogists and local historians.
The library's extensive large print collection of more than
4,500 titles grows each year thanks to the generosity of the
Alliance Lions Club. Free Inter-Library Loans have been
available for a year and patrons have responded enthusiastically.
The library offers classes in computer technology, a
popular travel series called "Adventure Bound" and expanded
adult programming. The library's children's staff makes
visits to local schools and provides story time and lap sit
programs for the youngest patrons. Rodman offers numerous
types of computers that are free of charge to the public.
A valid library card is required to use the computers.
The library's bookmobile, provided by Rodman since
1938, services the schools of Alliance and Marlington, as
well as community stops in Stark, Columbiana and Mahoning
counties. in 2007, the bookmobile traveled 2,125
miles and circulated 67,613 items. Rodman also provides
home-bound service to ill or handicapped residents who are
unable to come to the library.
Established in 2004 and accessed from the library's Web
site, the Alliance Memory project is a joint venture of the
library with assistance from the Alliance Historical Society,
Alliance City Schools, the Negro History Club, the Haines
House and Copeland Oaks. Materials from participating
organizations and individuals have been collected, digitized
and catalogued so they can be easily accessed through
the Alliance Memory Web site, located under "Local History
and Genealogy" on the library's home page. The project
features history of the community described through photographs,
sound recordings, written documents and video
recordings.
Rodman has operated a branch library in the Carnation
Mall, located at 2500 W. State St., since 1990 which
is very popular with Alliance area residents. The branch
contains adult and children's materials, as well as videos,
DVDs, CDs, large print books and books on audiotape
and CD.
The library offers a Dial-a-Story program for children
at (330) 821-TELL. Children have a choice among three
stories read by Alliance Kiwanis volunteers. The stories
can also be accessed on Rodman Kids on the library's
Web site.
